Subaru Ascent vs Ford Flex: Interior & Capacity

Though these SUVs have similar passenger volume, the 2019 Subaru Ascent has a huge advantage: it can seat up to eight passengers. The Ford Flex, on the other hand, can only seat up to seven. Both SUVs can also be equipped with second-row captain's chairs; this brings the number of people the Subaru Ascent can carry down to seven--but it also means that the Ford Flex can only carry six people when equipped this way!

When it's cargo space you need, the Subaru Ascent once again has your back. When you fold down the second and third rows of seating, the 2019 Subaru Ascent has up to 86.5 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Ford Flex has only 83.2 cubic feet. Additionally, the Subaru Ascent comes standard with roof rails. These are an available upgrade only on the 2019 Ford Flex.

Subaru Ascent vs Ford Flex: Tech

Subaru knows how important it is to stay safely connected when you're on the road. That's why every new 2019 Subaru Ascent comes standard with Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto. These features are available in the 2019 Ford Flex; however, to get them, you'll have to pay more for an upgrade.

Subaru Ascent vs Ford Flex: Performance

Taking a look at the standard engines, you'll see that the 2019 Ford Flex has a little more horsepower; however, the Subaru Ascent has greater torque. What's more, the engine in the Subaru Ascent is a BOXER® engine, meaning that it has exceptional balance and a low center of gravity. You'll also get better gas mileage in the 2019 Subaru Ascent, so the adventure can last even longer.

Want to bring a boat or a trailer along? When properly equipped, the 2019 Subaru Ascent can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The 2019 Ford Flex, on the other hand, maxes out at 4,500 pounds.

Subaru Ascent vs Ford Flex: Safety

To keep you and your family safe, every 2019 Subaru Ascent provides extra traction through Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD is an available upgrade only on the Ford Flex). This is just one of the many ways that Subaru takes the extra step to keep you safe, and it hasn't gone without notice. Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives out safety awards, and the 2019 Subaru Ascent received the 2019 Top Safety Pick+. That's the highest award that the IIHS offers! The 2019 Ford Flex, on the other hand, received no IIHS awards at all.

Subaru Ascent vs Ford Flex: Driver Assist Technology

Every 2019 Subaru Ascent comes standard with EyeSight®, an innovative suite of driver safety features like lane departure and sway warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision braking. Adaptive cruise control is an available upgrade in the 2019 Ford Flex, not a standard feature. Furthermore, you won't find automatic pre-collision braking at all in the 2019 Ford Flex.
