Subaru Crosstrek vs Subaru Outback: Size & Capacity

One of the biggest differences between these two SUVs is size. The Subaru Outback is a small SUV, while the Subaru Crosstrek is a smaller crossover SUV. The Subaru Crosstrek is more spacious than most other crossovers, with a roomy 100.9 cubic feet of passenger volume and 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat. But when you need extra room, the Subaru Outback comes with 108.1 cubic feet of passenger volume, as well as 35.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat.

Both SUVs, however, come with standard roof rails. This means that you can take additional cargo or gear along, from kayaks to skis and beyond. Also in both, you'll find convenient interior features like 60/40-split folding rear seatbacks, allowing you to configure the seats to get the optimal combination of passenger and cargo volume.

Subaru Crosstrek vs Subaru Outback: Comfort & Technology

Whichever of these SUVs you choose, you'll be getting a vehicle that's designed with comfort and convenience in mind. Comfortable upholstery, auto up/down front windows, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen are standard on both SUVs. In addition, they both offer available features like heated front seats, leather upholstery, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

But there are some notable differences, too. The Subaru Outback comes standard with cargo-area underfloor storage and a removable cargo-area tray, features that are available upgrades in the Subaru Crosstrek. The Subaru Outback is also available with heated rear seats, which the Subaru Crosstrek lacks entirely. And while both come with available upgraded Harman Kardon audio systems, the one in the Subaru Crosstrek has eight speakers; in the Outback, you can get 12.

Subaru Crosstrek vs Subaru Outback: Performance

We mentioned earlier that both of these SUVs have Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance. These features make them prepared for off-road adventures, but there's more. Hill Descent Control and X-MODE® (which optimizes the engine output to provide even better traction on lower-friction surfaces) can further help create a fun off-road experience. These features are standard in the Subaru Outback, but are available upgrades in the Subaru Crosstrek.

The Subaru Outback also has more power, with a standard BOXER® engine that generates 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. However, it's also heavier than the Subaru Crosstrek, meaning there's not as much of a difference as there might at first seem. The Subaru Outback also offers an upgraded six-cylinder BOXER® engine for even more power, which the Subaru Crosstrek lacks entirely. But no matter which engine you choose, the Subaru Crosstrek does get better gas mileage than the Subaru Outback (though both are very respectable).

Subaru Crosstrek vs Subaru Outback: Driver Assist Technology

Subaru EyeSight® is a suite of driver assist features that has been shown to reduce rear-end collisions with injuries by a stunning amount: up to 85%! EyeSight® combines Pre-collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lane Keep Assist, and it's standard on every new 2019 Subaru Outback. While EyeSight® can be had on the entry-level Subaru Crosstrek, as well, it's an additional upgrade that will cost you a bit more.

In Washington State, Subaru Is the Natural Choice

If you've been in the Pacific Northwest for a while, you've probably noticed that Subaru cars and SUVs are really popular here. That's not just a coincidence: Subaru vehicles are perfectly suited to this part of the country. While the all-wheel drive that's standard on most Subaru models is one of the key reasons for this, there are so many more. As a brand, Subaru has received acclaim from a variety of organizations. Kelley Blue Book has named Subaru the Most Trusted Brand for five years in a row, for example, and ALG has rated Subaru the 2019 Top Brand for Residual Value. This level of quality is incredibly hard to find, and Subaru is proud to do the extra work it takes to make sure it exceeds expectations.

As your local Subaru dealership, Hanson Subaru also works hard to exceed your expectations. We've been family owned and operated for over 35 years, and are involved with a number of local nonprofits and charities. We regularly offer special low sale and lease prices to help you save even more on the Subaru vehicles in our huge inventory. But we're not satisfied with just giving you a great price: we want to give you the best price. If you find any other Subaru dealer in the state of Washington selling an identical model as we are for less money, we'll match their price. We look forward to showing you what sets us apart at Hanson Subaru. You'll find us at 2300 Carriage Loop SW, Olympia, WA 98502, just a few minutes' drive from Lacey and Tumwater.
