2019 Subaru Ascent vs Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV Comparison in Columbus, OH

What do you get when you cross a three-row SUV with all the great features you've come to expect from Subaru? The Subaru Ascent, available at Hanson Subaru! This AWD SUV is capable enough for off-road exploration, refined enough to be a great daily driver, and big enough for the whole family.

While other SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee may be tough competition on one front, it's hard to beat the Subaru Ascent for all-around value and quality. The Ascent stands up to its competition admirably, and this includes the more expensive Jeep Grand Cherokee. Below, we'll take a look at just what separates these two SUVs.

Subaru Ascent vs Jeep Grand Cherokee: Interior Space

The Subaru Ascent is a midsize SUV with three comfortable rows of seating for up to eight occupants, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee has only two rows for up to five people. Of course, this makes the Subaru Ascent the more spacious of the two. However, even if you don't take the third row into consideration, the Subaru Ascent has more headroom and shoulder room than the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

It's not just passenger space where the Subaru Ascent excels. Fold down its third row, and you'll get 47.5 cubic feet of cargo space, or fold down the second and third rows for up to 86.5 cubic feet. This cavernous Subaru SUV interior makes the 68.3 cubic feet of maximum cargo space in the Jeep Grand Cherokee look meager by comparison. What's more, the Subaru Ascent comes standard with roof rails so you can take even more gear along. While these are available on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, you'll have to pay more for the upgrade.

Subaru Ascent vs Jeep Grand Cherokee: Tech Features

Staying connected is more important than ever in today's world, and the Subaru Ascent makes it easy. It comes standard with 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, which helps you connect up to seven devices to especially fast internet connection. You won't find this feature in the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Nor will you find LED Steering Responsive Headlights, an available feature in the Subaru Ascent. These headlights make nighttime driving easier by tracking in the direction of every turn you take.

Subaru Ascent vs Jeep Grand Cherokee: Performance

Like all Subaru models, the Ascent is powered by a BOXER® engine. This engine is horizontally opposed, with a flat design that gives the Subaru Ascent great balance, a low center of gravity, and a smooth ride with decreased vibrations. It may put out less horsepower than the engine in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but it does generate more torque. What's more, the Subaru Ascent is lighter, so the power goes further.

If you're looking at these two SUVs, you may be considering some off-roading. While it's certainly possible with both, the Subaru Ascent lets you go off-road right off the bat. Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (combined with the extra traction courtesy of standard Hill Descent Control and X-MODE® features) give the Subaru Ascent what it needs to nimbly crawl over tough terrain. And while the Jeep Grand Cherokee does offer an available 4x4 drivetrain, it comes standard as a two-wheel drive vehicle.

Subaru Ascent vs Jeep Grand Cherokee: Safety

The standard AWD system in the Subaru Ascent makes it a great off-roader, but it does more than that: it also makes your drive safer. When you're driving down wet streets in the rainy season, the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive provides extra traction to help keep all four wheels exactly where you need them to be. The standard rear-wheel drive on the Jeep Grand Cherokee doesn't afford this same protection.

The dedication Subaru has to your safety has earned it high ratings and awards. Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives you safety awards, and the 2019 Subaru Ascent earned its highest possible prize: the 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award. The Jeep Grand Cherokee didn't earn any awards from IIHS, while also earning lower scores in several crash and safety categories.

Subaru Ascent vs Jeep Grand Cherokee: Driver Assist Technology

Subaru wants to make sure your family is safe, no matter which Ascent you choose. To that end, you'll find Pre-collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lane Keep Assist standard in every 2019 Subaru Ascent. If you were to choose the entry-level Jeep Grand Cherokee, you wouldn't find these features at all. In fact, most of them aren't even options until you get to the higher trim levels.

In Washington State, Subaru Is the Natural Choice

If you've been in the Pacific Northwest for a while, you've probably noticed that Subaru cars and SUVs are really popular here. That's not just a coincidence: Subaru vehicles are perfectly suited to this part of the country. While the all-wheel drive that's standard on most Subaru models is one of the key reasons for this, there are so many more. As a brand, Subaru has received acclaim from a variety of organizations. Kelley Blue Book has named Subaru the Most Trusted Brand for five years in a row, for example, and ALG has rated Subaru the 2019 Top Brand for Residual Value. This level of quality is incredibly hard to find, and Subaru is proud to do the extra work it takes to make sure it exceeds expectations.

As your local Subaru dealership, Hanson Subaru also works hard to exceed your expectations. We've been family owned and operated for over 35 years, and are involved with a number of local nonprofits and charities. We regularly offer special low sale and lease prices to help you save even more on the Subaru vehicles in our huge inventory. But we're not satisfied with just giving you a great price: we want to give you the best price. If you find any other Subaru dealer in the state of Washington selling an identical model as we are for less money, we'll match their price. We look forward to showing you what sets us apart at Hanson Subaru. You'll find us at 2300 Carriage Loop SW, Olympia, WA 98502, just a few minutes' drive from Lacey and Tumwater.
