2019 Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra Small Car Comparison in Olympia, WA

When you're looking for a small car that perfectly suits life in the Pacific Northwest, it's hard to get any better than the 2019 Subaru Impreza. While the 2019 Hyundai Elantra may try to compete, it simply lacks much of what the Subaru Impreza has to offer.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Interior

The Subaru Impreza may technically be a small car, but "small" doesn't feel like the right word to use for a sedan with 99.8 cubic feet of passenger volume! It's much more comfortable on long trips compared to the Hyundai Elantra, which has just 95.8 cubic feet. This means that you'll get more front headroom, more front and rear legroom, and more front and rear shoulder room in the Subaru Impreza than you get in the Hyundai Elantra.

Space isn't the only thing that matters when it comes to comfort, and Subaru knows this. Basic comfort features like floor mats and cruise control are standard on the Subaru Impreza--but you'll have to pay more to add even these basic features to the Hyundai Elantra!

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Technology

The Subaru Impreza comes with the impressive STARLINK™ Multimedia system, which is controlled by a 6.5-inch touchscreen. This system includes standard connectivity through Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto. Not only does the Hyundai Elantra have only a 5-inch touchscreen, but Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ are completely unavailable in the entry-level trim; you have to pay more to get them.

The BOXER engine that powers the 2019 Subaru Impreza.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Performance

The engines in these two cars may seem similar, despite the fact that the Subaru generates a bit more power. And on paper, there doesn't seem to be much difference. But you don't drive on paper--and once you hit the road, you'll be able to tell the benefits of a SUBARU BOXER® engine. It gives the Subaru Impreza a low center of gravity and great balance. It also cancels out vibrations for a quieter ride. What's more, the Subaru Impreza comes with four-wheel independent suspension for a truly smooth driving experience. The 2019 Hyundai Elantra has less advanced torsion-beam rear suspension.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Safety

When it comes to your safety, the Subaru Impreza is the natural choice. It's equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which gives you extra traction on slick roads. The Hyundai Elantra only comes with front-wheel drive. That's not the only advantage the Subaru Impreza has; it also comes with disc brakes on all four wheels, while the Hyundai Elantra comes standard with rear-wheel drum brakes. You can get rear disc brakes on the Elantra, but it will cost more.

Subaru Impreza vs Hyundai Elantra: Driver Assist Technology

Even the entry-level Subaru Impreza has available Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which includes lane keep assist, lane departure alert, and adaptive cruise control. Similar features can be found in the Hyundai Elantra, but only if you pay more. You can't get any of these features on the entry-level Elantra, and adaptive cruise control is only available in the top-of-the-line trim level.
